Stockholm one of the top five cities 2012
[111118] When Lonely Planet lists its top-ten favourite cities 2012, Stockholm joins cities as London, Muscat, Bangalore and Cádiz.
London is top-ranked, which may not come as a surprise to anyone, since the city is hosting the 2012 Olympic summer games. Stockholm ranks fifth on the list ahead of cities as Santiago, Hongkong and Orlando.
“This is as seductive a capital city as can be imagined – cozy yet cosmopolitan, willfully alternative and effortlessly picturesque,” the Lonely Planet said in its description of Stockholm. The guide singles out the island of Södermalm as “one of the coolest kids on the block” due to its eclectic mix of bars and design boutiques, while also pointing out the “stately parks” of Djurgården as another worthy attraction.
The news of Stockholm's inclusion on the prestigious Lonely Planet list was cheered by Peter Lindqvist, head of Stockholm Visitors Board.
- I believe that Stockholm's inclusion in the Lonely Planet rankings likely will have an effect on tourism in Stockholm next year, he says.
