Make your trade fair participation more sustainable

Stockholmsmässan’s Sustainability Manager, Linda Elmén, shares her best tips and tricks to exhibitors for a participation with a lower climate impact.
The key is planning and a circular approach, according to Linda.

– You can make the biggest difference prior to the fair as you then really can plan your participation, says Linda. By keeping sustainability, reusing and circularity in mind while designing the booth, you are off to a good start. Avoid buying new in favor of borrowing or renting interior elements.

But it doesn’t end there. Below follows more tips on how to make your participation as sustainable as possible.

The booth and its décor
For a totally circular booth, you can rent basically everything, such as walls, lights, AV equipment, furniture, and carpets from us. A lot of what you can rent, as our carpets, are reused several times. As a bonus, everything awaits you when you arrive. It can hardly be more convenient and sustainable.

Image-building and marketing
If you plan to produce signs, banners, rollups and beach flags or workwear and trade fair clothing, it is wise to omit any dates when printing these. That way they can be reused. Be mindful of what materials you use and employ an environmentally certified printer. Avoid unnecessary printouts by promoting your participation on our digital signs and on your company profile online on the fair's website.

Travel and accommodations
Plan your travel and accommodations. Stockholmsmässan is situated only 9 minutes by train from the city center and 45 minutes from Arlanda Airport. If you must go by car, why not carpool with your invited guests? The hotel Scandic Talk, perfect for exhibitors and visitors who whish to avoid commuting, lies just a stone’s throw from the Main Entrance.

Food and giveaways
Food is always important at an event and all restaurants and cafés are certified with the Swedish sustainability label KRAV (stage 1). Feel free to consult our restaurateur Mässrestauranger to order food with lower climate impact. We also recommend a watercooler instead of water bottles in the booth. Everything you serve in your booth sends a signal about your sustainability. Avoid unnecessary giveaways and make sure coffee, snacks etc. are KRAV certified

Waste disposal
Once the fair is over, waste disposal is very important. Sort your waste and make ensure that coworkers and booth constructors comply, at installation as well as dismantling. Keep and reuse all possible material or donate to charity. Lanyards and keychains can be reused if you leave these in the allotted containers by the exit.

Sustainable choices

• At Stockholmsmässan you can rent everything you need, which truly is circular! You’ll also reduce transports to and from the venue.

• We offer rental carpets, which are cleaned without any water or chemicals after each use, and have a lifespan of 25 to 30 times.

• We reuse all or parts of our cafés, bars, and stages. A typical stage has a lifespan of 50 years.

• When possible, we reuse the joists in the walls 3 to 4 times. After that they are turned into district heating.

• The exhibition walls are reused approximately 13 times before they are turned into district heating.

• All paints used are eco-labelled and approved by The Asthma and Allergy Association.

• LED lights lower energy consumption by roughly 10 times and have a lifespan of approximately 30,000 hours.

• No less than 98% of our waste is either reused, recycled or energy recovered. We strive towards an efficient use of our resources and continually try to increase the amount of materials we reuse as well as reduce our material use and waste generation.

• We utilize specially constructed mobile recycling bins in order to ensure easy access. They are flexible and can be optimally placed for any event.
